Hometown astronaut William Gregory from the Space Shuttle Endeavour to host meet-and-greet

LOCKPORT, NY - The Challenger Learning Center of Lockport is actively accepting registrations for its inaugural C.L.C. William Gregory 5k fundraiser on Saturday September 27th. The 5k is taking place in conjunction with the annual Locktober Fest. Registrations will be accepted all the way to the day of the event.

In addition to the 5K race, local astronaut William Gregory will be present for a meet and greet with fans. Gregory served as the STS-67 pilot on the Space Shuttle Endeavour which launched from the Kennedy Space Center in 1995. The Challenger Learning Center of Lockport is a space-themed educational hub based on the historic Challenger Space Shuttle. Funds raised from the 5K will support the center’s programming. The center’s programs include summer programs, after school programs, scout programs and more.

The C.L.C. teaches students valuable STEM skills and exposes them to space and STEM related careers through immersive hands-on learning experiences. The center offers hands-on space flight simulations, virtual space missions, a mobile planetarium and more.

The 40th anniversary of the Challenger Space Shuttle explosion will take place in January 2026. The center will announce a series of programs commemorating the anniversary. For more information about the Challenger Learning Center of Lockport visit www.clclockport.org.
