Promising Engineers Complete GHD/BEAM Summer Internship
Buffalo-area Engineering Awareness for Minorities (BEAM) and GHD teamed up and offered high school students a 6-week paid internship

The Buffalo office of GHD, a global professional services firm and the Buffalo-area Engineering Awareness for Minorities (BEAM) teamed up and offered a six-week summer internship program to 12 students from Hutchinson Central Technical High School and Bennett High School, both in Buffalo.
The program began July 10 and ended Thursday, August 15. It was designed to introduce the students to a range of technical and professional experiences within the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines. Providing our youth with this type of engineering-targeted education is crucial for empowering them to tackle our world's future challenges with creativity and confidence and am excited to see where they'll go."

With guidance and instruction from GHD’s engineering team, the students learned about mechanical, chemical, civil, environmental and electrical engineering. Students worked on a variety of hands-on projects covering all engineering disciplines and culminated with presentations from each student. The students also learned professional skills such as business etiquette, networking, presentation techniques and the creation and maintenance of a LinkedIn profile.
