Here are the top 3 stories today in Buffalo:

  1. Buffalo Niagara's unemployment rate is hitting historic lows, but do you know why? The current jobless rate is at 3.4 percent, which is the lowest rate on record for the region. That's a 2 percent decrease from May 2021, when it was 5.4 percent. According to local economists, people are re-entering the job market as the COVID-19 pandemic slows down. Those economists also say that they expect employment to remain steady even as the economy enters what many are calling a recession. (Buffalo News)
  2. A new study says that Buffalo is the fifth-best metropolitan area for those who are buying a home for the first time. According to personal finance research firm Bankrate.com, the city is enjoying its status due to factors including affordability, unemployment rates, commute times, and others. According to the report, the best city for first-time homebuyers is Pittsburgh, followed by Minneapolis, Cincinnati and Kansas City. (Buffalo News)
  3. A push to rename part of Buffalo is gaining steam. Masten District Councilmember Ulysees O. Wingo Sr. announced a resolution to ask people to refer to the east side of Buffalo as "East Buffalo." The Councilmember says that it is an important step to giving the area a fresh face in the eyes of Buffalo residents. (WIVB)
