BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN —Almost 100 new Citi Bike stations are coming to Bushwick, East New Williamsburg and Ridgewood, the city's bike-share company announced Wednesday.

The north Brooklyn-Queens border will get 85 new Citi Bike stations as part of a new $100 million plan from Lyft — which took over the bike-sharing program in 2018 — to expand Citi Bike's reach by 35 miles by 2023.

"We are thrilled to bring Citi Bike to more New Yorkers this month," Lyft's head of micromobility policy Caroline Samponaro said in a statement. "Residents of Bushwick, Ridgewood, and beyond can soon seamlessly experience the benefits of bikeshare and how transformative Citi Bike can be for getting around our city.”

The Brooklyn expansion is slated to begin next week with 25 new locations in East Williamsburg and more promised in Bushwick and Ridgewood, a new map shows.

The announcement comes after the Department of Transportation announced in July that it would be expanding Citi Bike deeper into the outer boroughs amid widespread criticism the program serves mainly centrally located, well-heeled pockets of the city.

The map's release also follows a record-setting Citi Bike ridership in August.

Polly Trottenberg, the DOT commissioner, said the agency is "thrilled" to add docks in Bushwick and Ridgewood.

"Citi Bike is regularly shattering ridership records, as more New Yorkers and visitors alike discover what is, hands down, one of the most fun, healthiest, and sustainable ways to get around the city," she said. "We are very excited about this latest development and cannot wait to add more new neighborhoods in 2020 and beyond.”
