New Dermatology Office Meets Bushwick's Skincare Demands
The Dermatology Specialists opened its tenth location on Myrtle Avenue in Bushwick on June 10th.

In recent years, Bushwick has transformed into a hotspot for new residents, mirroring the revitalization that Williamsburg underwent nearly ten years ago. But while more businesses and young professionals move into the area and revitalize the neighborhood’s economy, it still lacks in professional healthcare services, particularly when it comes to dermatology.
For locals, a quick online search for top-rated Bushwick dermatologists yields a staggering lack of skincare providers in the neighborhood. The closest option for many residents lies outside the neighborhood’s borders in Williamsburg or Bedford-Stuyvesant.
However, Bushwick is getting a service which may finally meet the local demands for residents’ skincare needs. The Dermatology Specialists, a merger between Bobby Buka MD Dermatology and Brooklyn Dermatology, opened up its tenth location in Bushwick at 1163 Myrtle Avenue on June 10th.

Dr. Bobby Buka now serves as The Dermatology Specialists’ Chief Executive Officer while Dr. Sourab Choudhury, formerly of Brooklyn Dermatology, acts as the joint practice’s Chief Medical Officer. The practice serves both adults and children, and is one of the only in New York City to be run by two top dermatologists who specialize in pediatric dermatology.
Dr. Buka says, “We love the opportunity to become a pioneer dermatology practice in Bushwick. We’re not afraid of moving into neighborhoods that don’t have quality dermatological care yet. New Yorkers of all backgrounds deserve access to great skin care and we’re honored to make that happen.”

NYC data on 2018 Community Health profiles shows that 18 percent of Bushwick adults are uninsured, higher than the rest of NYC. That can be a hurdle for some health practices, but not for The Dermatology Specialists, which takes uninsured patients and also accepts most insurance plans including HealthFirst and Metroplus.
“Our focus is to make our practice as accessible as possible,” explains Dr. Buka.
Bushwick residents can expect The Dermatology Specialists’ services to include medical treatments including acne, rosacea and eczema and cosmetic services like lasers, volume-restoring fillers and BOTOX Cosmetic.
While the new office joins nine other of The Dermatology Specialists’ locations in various neighborhoods of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens, the Bushwick office will offer unique services for locals, including a cutting-edge picosecond laser which cuts the time in half for tattoo removals compared to the previous model.
Ultimately, though, the focus of the newest location is to provide accessible, patient-first care in an emerging neighborhood that is in need of quality skincare services and reaches more people for a healthier quality of life.
“We’re offering the accessibility of healthy skin to all ethnicities and backgrounds in a super diverse neighborhood. Some people believe in the myth that dermatological care is for just the rich and famous, and we want to emphatically dispel that myth. Everyone needs to take care of their skin,” says Dr. Buka.
In August, Brooklyn locals can expect another office to open its doors at The Dermatology Specialists’ eleventh location in Greenpoint.
