- Amber Luo, a senior at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, placed third in the Regeneron Science Talent Search on Tuesday night, earning a $150,000 prize, contest organizers said. Newsday reported, "Luo was honored for her development of a software called RiboBayes, a computational tool used to reveal how ribosomes move along a cell’s mRNA transcript to produce proteins, according to contest officials. Her work, she said, can enable researchers to gain a better view of underlying health conditions in a range of diseases, such as Alzheimer’s." (Newsday)
- "Stony Brook University will lead a new, innovative network of regional biomedical research institutions to accelerate translational research that will impact and advance clinical care for many physical and mental health conditions," according to Stony Brook News. (Stony Brook News)
- Long Island native Debbie Gibson to perform at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts as part of her "The Body Remembers Tour" on June 19. Gibson, 52, has sold more than 16 million albums and has starred in 17 musicals in 17 years, from Broadway's "Les Miserables" to the West End's "Grease," according to officials. (Patch)
- MMS Community Library is promoting early literacy through laundromats! The program aims to get the community to read while waiting for laundry chores to be done. The event will be held at The Laundry Kingdom, located at 579 Montauk Highway in Shirley, on Saturday, March 19, from 9 a.m.- noon. (MMSCL)
