Here are the top stories today in Center Moriches-Eastport:
- New adoptable pets this week at Center Moriches-Eastport area shelters. Meet Indy, Isaac, Lina and more pups just like them or, you may consider fostering. Offering a needy animal a safe, comforting and supportive environment while she waits to be adopted, helps socialize a shelter pet to enhance her adoption potential. (Center Moriches-Eastport Patch)
- Check out this week’s newest job openings — the list is long, and the jobs are diverse. Search for more job openings in your area on the Center Moriches-Eastport Patch jobs board. (Center Moriches-Eastport Patch)
- Just after 6 p.m. Sunday evening, numerous calls came in to the Suffolk Counts 911 unit reporting a garage fire on Belleview Avenue off Laura Lee Drive. Center Moriches firefighters responded to the calls and found the garage engulfed in flames when they arrived. No injuries were reported. Brookhaven Town Fire Marshalls Office is investigating the cause of the fire. (Center Moriches Fire Department via Facebook)
- At least one political leader is taking action on gun control. Gov. Kathy Hochul signed into law 10 gun control bills this Monday. The laws include raising the legal age to purchase a semiautomatic weapon to 21, mandating "micro-stamping on new weapons and strengthen 'red flag' laws that allow for more extreme-risk protection orders."
