1. A Newsday analysis of social services data shows, after the death of 8-year-old Thomas Valva, almost 60 percent of Suffolk County Child Protective Services workers last year carried high caseloads that failed to meet standards under a law enacted in 2020. (Subscription: Newsday)
2. Peconic Bay Medical Center has expanded! PBMC added another operating room, making that the seventh, and purchased a new da Vinci XI robotic surgical system to help expand minimally invasive surgical procedures. The da Vinci Surgical System not only translates the surgeon’s hand movements in real-time, it also gives doctors access to 3D, high-definition views of the surgical area magnified 10 times the human eye! 3. The Ward Melville Heritage Organization (WMHO)’s Summer of Science is back this summer at the Edwin Ernst Marine Conservation Center at West Meadow in Stony Brook. They feature open-air outdoor programs with hands-on explorations of our environment, plants and animals along the Long Island shore.
