- On Tuesday, Center Moriches Fire Department responded to a call from Kurt Weiss Greenhouse on Montauk Highway. It was reported that employees felt ill from an unknown odor in their break room. The Major Emergency Response Vehicle (MERV) was deployed and transported multiple patients at one time to a local hospital; all were in stable condition. The cause of the irritant is under investigation by the Brookhaven Town fire Marshal’s office. (Facebook)
- A work safety report finds 35 percent of workplace injuries occurred during a worker’s first year on a job. When starting a new job, there are new processes to learn and a new safety culture to understand. (Subscription: Newsday)
- Parolee Messiah Booker, also known as Matthew Booker, 37, a Mastic Beach man, was arrested by Riverhead Police detectives and charged Tuesday with firing a gun at a Riverhead apartment complex earlier in May, police said. Booker was previously charged with shooting Demitri Hampton during a 2013 home invasion in Flanders. (Riverhead Patch)
