- Suffolk County's National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) invites residents who are at risk for developing type-2 diabetes to participate, free of charge, in this program. According to the press release, to enroll in the Diabetes Prevention Program, residents must meet three criteria: Must be over the age of 18, and have a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 25 (23 for Asian Americans) AND one of the following: a score of 5 or higher on the CDC risk test, have had gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), or have had certain blood test results that indicate they are at risk for developing diabetes. - "Like every normal person, it's a shock, there is disbelief," Rev. Bohdan Hedz of the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riverhead said to Patch about the news that Russia had declared war, invading Ukraine with explosions. According to the Patch, Hedz's mother, 67, lives in Ukraine and refuses to leave. "She said, 'If I need to bear arms, I'm going to fight.'"(Riverhead Patch)
- Thanks to the quick actions of Long Island's finest, a suicidal Coram man is alive and in a local hospital for observation. Police said the officers responded to a Middle Country Road building following a 911 call reporting a man threatening to jump. They arrived to find the man, whose identity was not released, sitting at the edge of the roof with both legs dangling over the edge, police said. Officers talked to him from below, while the other officers made their way to the rooftop and managed to grab the man, pulling him to safety. (smithtownmatters.com)
