LI Snow Estimates Released For Powerful Nor'easter
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the region. See the latest forecast.
LONG ISLAND, NY — Wind chill temperatures below zero. Rain. Snow. Sleet. It's all in the forecast this weekend for Long Island. On the "bright" side, the first day of spring is just 65 days away.
Here's what the National Weather Service said in a hazardous weather outlook issued for the region Friday morning:
The combination of very cold air moving into the region and strong northerly winds will produce winds chills of zero to 10 below late tonight into Saturday morning.
With an upcoming storm system moving up from the south on Sunday, there will be potential for coastal flooding for the high tide cycles Sunday night and Monday during the day. The Monday daytime coastal flooding looks to be the worse of the two, being widespread with the possibility of moderate to major coastal flooding.
The nor'easter that will impact the island at the end of the weekend is expected to bring more rain than snow. A coating to up to 2 inches of snow is possible Sunday night, but most of the island should see less than an inch of accumulation before the snow mixes with rain and then changes to plain rain early Monday.

"This looks to be primarily a 12 hour event with respect to steady to heavy precipitation," the weather service's New York office said in a forecast discussion.
Wind gusts over 40 mph are likely at the coast, with a few gusts over 50 mph possible early Monday. These winds could lead to power outages and tree damage, the Weather Channel reported.
