Local Students Make Impressive Showing In 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program

Congratulations to the 37 Horace Greeley High School seniors who were named a COMMENDED STUDENT in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Competition after taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Based on a nationally applied Selection Index score, they are among the approximately 34,000 commended students throughout the nation being acknowledged for their exceptional academic promise.

SEMIFINALISTS

Congratulations to the 10 Horace Greeley High School students who were among the 16,000 high school seniors nationwide to be named a SEMIFINALIST in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.

They received this distinction by scoring among the top 5% of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2024 scholarship program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

Finalists will be announced in February 2024.
