CHAPPAQUA, NY — Just a few weeks ago, voters sent the Chappaqua Central School District back to the drawing board after rejecting their initial budget proposal.

Tonight, voters approved a revised budget, with 1234 votes in favor and 281 votes against.

"The Chappaqua Central School District would like to thank our community for passing the 2024-2025 School Budget," school officials said Tuesday night.

After voters rejected the $141,856,238 Chappaqua schools budget that exceeded the tax cap on May 21, with 2006 against and 1128 in favor, the Board of Education came up with a revised budget on June 3.

The new budget proposed spending $140,747,738 and did not exceed the tax cap. The revised budget is $2,451,452 higher than the current year's budget and will increase the tax levy by 1.81 percent.

"Over the past two weeks, we have listened to your concerns and your feedback and have met with many stakeholders," Superintendent Christine Ackerman said after the revised budget was adopted earlier this month. "This newly proposed budget maintains all of the District's excellent academic and extracurricular programming, as well as the smaller elementary and middle school sections outlined in the original proposed budget. As always, the safety of our students and staff remains our priority. While this new proposed budget does not include funding for three additional School Resource Officers (SRO), it would maintain our current SRO program, while adding additional security enhancements throughout the District."
