'A Beacon of Inspiration': North Babylon Star Student

NORTH BABYLON, NY— Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Tanasia Poke who nominated Tiarra Sky.

Poke, Tiarra's mother, wrote that she is a "beacon of inspiration" as her accomplishments and determination never ceased to awe others.

How do you know the star local student?

She is my daughter.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Tiarra Sky was born prematurely, weighing only 1lb 15 Oz, and arrived three months before her due date. At the time of her birth, her parents were warned about the possible physical and psychological developmental challenges she may face.

However, today, Tiarra Sky is thriving in many areas of her life. She has consistently been on the High Honor Roll since beginning school in kindergarten, displaying her academic excellence. In addition, she is a talented and versatile athlete, excelling in dance, track, and cheerleading. At the young age of 10, Tiarra Sky even launched her own online boutique named Pretty Booked & Busy, becoming an entrepreneur and setting an example for her family.

During the pandemic, she pivoted her business by creating children's masks, demonstrating her innovative and adaptive spirit. Tiarra serves as a beacon of inspiration for all of us, proving that our minds are the only limit to our achievements and reminding us that we can reach great heights with perseverance and determination.
