5 Things: Talia Billig at Sycamore, Movie Making and Grand Central's Centennial Celebration

1. See a singer-songwriter. Talia Billig, who "incorporate pop melodies, jazz harmonies and unconventional song structures," according to Sycamore, will be plaing there tonight. Doors open at 9. $10. 

2. Go for something different. Head to Branded Saloon for Casimir Liberski, whose piano trio combines jazz with gospel, blues, hip-hop, soul, funk and reggae with classical and electronics. 603 Vanderbilt Ave. at Bergen. 7 p.m. No cover.

3. Get in touch with your inner performer. Head to the Rock Shop tonight where a live band will back your karaoke endeavors and let you live out that dream of becoming a rockstar. 8-11:30 p.m., 249 4th Ave., $5. 

4. Mark a miracle. Ok, this isn't remotely near Ditmas Park but we had to note it: Grand Central Station was almost torn down in the middle of the 20th century. But preservationists won out and  the old girl turns 100 today. So pop into the station to catch myriad guest speakers and performances in the Main Concourse, taking place from 9:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. with a rush-hour break from 4-6:30 p.m. The West Point Brass and Percussion Band will perform at 9:30 a.m. and addresses from Cynthia Nixon of Sex and the City fame, ex–poet laureate Billy Collins and former Mets first baseman Keith Hernandez from 10–11:15 a.m.

5. Move the car. Yep, you guessed it: alternate side parking rules are in effect today. The next suspension is Sun., Feb. 10 for the Asian Lunar New Year.
