Police Shoot, Kill Suspected Robber in South Brooklyn

The victim allegedly pointed a gun at an NYPD sergeant during a police chase through Gravesend.

GRAVESEND, BROOKLYN — Just as a candlelight vigil was about to begin at Grand Army Plaza for multiple civilians killed by police and police killed by civilians last week, reports started flooding in about an NYPD-involved shooting in South Brooklyn early Monday night.

An unidentified man was shot and killed by police at 2271 78th St. near Quentin Road around 6:40 p.m., according to the NYPD.

A gun not belonging to the NYPD was recovered at the scene, police said.

"Officers responded to a burglary in progress, where they observed a male fleeing the location," the department said in a statement. "After scaling a fence, the suspect was confronted by responding uniformed sergeant. The suspect pointed a revolver at the sergeant. Both the sergeant and another officer discharged their firearms, striking the suspect twice."
