Brennan to Serve on Infrastructure Commission

Commission created to strengthen and protect New York's infrastructure following superstorm Sandy.

 

A local voice will have a say in how New York's infrastructure is advanced in light of the damage superstorm Sandy inflicted. 

Assemblyman James Brennan, D-Ditmas Park, has been appointed by Speaker Sheldon Silver to NYS 2100, a commission created by Governor Cuomo to strengthen and protect New York State’s infrastructure following Sandy.

“I am honored to serve the state of New York in this new capacity and I strongly believe that by working cooperatively and creatively we can build a stronger and more resilient New York that will be better able to face challenges in the future,” said Brennan.   

NYS2100 has been charged to review and make recommendations on strategies to protect existing transportation, energy, environmental and other infrastructure systems to withstand natural disasters and other emergencies.

The Commission must also review and recommend priority projects to replace damaged infrastructure or to diversify or make more resilient our infrastructure; long-term options for the use of barriers and natural protective systems; opportunities to integrate infrastructure planning, protection and development into New York’s economic development strategies, and; reforms in the area of insurance and risk management related to natural disasters and other emergencies.

The Commission’s preliminary recommendations are due Jan. 3. 

NYS2100 is comprised of 25 members and will be co-chaired by Judith Rodin, president of the Rockefeller Foundation and Felix Rohatyn, former chairman of the Municipal Assistance Corporation.
