
Church Avenue's annual street fair is coming this Sunday.
The Fair will take place on Sun. April 21 from 12-6 p.m. from East 10th Street to Argyle Road and is co-hosted with the 70th Precinct Community Council.
Church Avenue will be the place to come to on Sunday for great food.
- During the Restaurant Hour & Food Contest (1:00 – 2:00), Shayna’s, Lark, Meat Palace, Zagat-rated Am Thai Bistro, an incoming Southern-inspired bistro from the people who operate popular Brooklyn food-stand, Fat Beagle, and Downtown Natural will offer $1 samples of their best (Chipolte Pimento Cheese on Cornbread Toast with Okra, Vegetable Pad Thai, Chicken Roti, etc.) for the public to taste.
- Our team of judges, including Peter DeNat (Brooklyn Community Director of Yelp, Mary Bakija (Ditmas Park Corner blog), Faye Penn (Brokelyn blog), and others will be judging the same dishes and giving out awards in several categories at 2:00.
- Owners of soon-to-open restaurants Wheated Brooklyn (Church off Coney Island Ave.) and Anarkali Indian Cuisine (corner of Westminster) will be on hand with information and sneak peeks.
- The long-awaited Richie Rich Caribbean restaurant (1219 Church) will be serving up jerk chicken.
The event will feature family activities, including belly dancing demonstrations (2:30 at E. 10th St. from Namaste Yoga); rides; the FDNY’s Fire Safety Experience; free hour-long sessions in Honeydew Drop's indoor playground, arts and crafts, and face painting (all from noon to 4:00 at 1113 Church); and a kids’ concert (4:00 at Children’s Corner at the corner of Stratford Rd.).
Lark (1007 Church) will be giving a 10% discount and giving out free PLAYSOCCER decals all day for kids who show up for a snack or lunch at the cafe in their AYSO soccer uniforms. Finally, a make-up artist and the salon’s hair specialists will be on hand at Z-Spot Salon (1017 Church Ave., between E. 10th St. and Stratford Rd.), where visitors can receive discounted eyelash extensions, make-up, and hair styling.
