Cortelyou Road Traffic Forum Likely to Occur in March

Forum will take place after DOT finishes area traffic study.

A second meeting between Councilman Mathieu Eugene, the Department of Transportation and concerned residents to discuss traffic along and near Cortelyou Road will likely take place at the end of March, a spokesperson for Eugene told Patch.

The forum will be held after the DOT completes its study currently underway of traffic and issues raised at the first meeting, which took place in October.

A top priority among the many traffic concerns discussed is the corner of Coney Island Avenue and Cortelyou Road, as crossing over Coney Island Avenue can be problematic for drivers and pedestrians alike since Cortelyou Road does not run in a straight line.

"We're exploring a couple of different options," the spokesperson said about rectifying this situation, noting the Auto Body Shop on that corner has been made aware Eugene and DOT is serious about addressing the issue.

Other issues residents raised have already been addressed, including installing a traffic light at the once- problematic corner of Westminster Road and Cortelyou Avenue.
