Here are the top three stories today in Ditmas Park-Flatbush:
- Residents and politicians gathered on Friday evening at the corner of Linden and East 56th streets in East Flatbush, where 12-year-old Kade Lewin was shot dead the night before. They called for an end to gun violence, in a district where shootings were up 80% percent, compared to the same time in 2021. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Gun shots from the same night that Kade Lewin was killed also hit neighboring East Flatbush small businesses, including at a nail salon. Neighbors have put together a makeshift candlelit memorial at the site of the shooting. (New York Post)
- New York City's mask mandate for 2 to 4 year olds will stay in place today, after a judge ruled in favor of Mayor Eric Adams, who appealed a lawsuit against it. While the mayor originally intended to end the mandate, he reversed course due to a recent uptick in cases.(Gothamist)
