Flatbush and Ditmas Park Have a New Police Captain

The NYPD's 70th precinct will now be led by Captain James Palumbo.

DITMAS PARK, BROOKLYN — As previously reported by Ditmas Park Corner, the NYPD's 70th precinct has a new man in charge.

Captain James Palumbo has taken over the precinct's top spot from Deputy Inspector Richard DiBlasio, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. DiBlasio was reassigned to the Police Academy, the spokesperson said.

The 70th's coverage area includes parts of Flatbush, Ditmas Park and Midwood.

A police spokeswoman said Tuesday that the switch was a normal administrative move and did not result from any recent developments.

According to official NYPD statistics, overall crime in the 70th is down 3.3 percent so far this year compared to the same period last year. However, so far this year, the area has experienced 115 grand larcenies, compared to 95 during the same period last year.
