Here are the top three stories today in Ditmas Park-Flatbush:

  1. Early voting began on Saturday to replace Assemblywoman Diana Richardson, who was recently appointed deputy Brooklyn Borough President. The district includes the northern parts of Flatbush. The two top contenders are Brian Cunningham, supported by Rita Joseph and Kevin Parker; and Jelanie DeShong, running on the Working Families Party line. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. A devastating fire broke out early Sunday morning at a Flatlands Chinese restaurant, also destroying an upstairs apartment. The fire's cause is under investigation, but it may have involved lithium batteries, according to the FDNY. (News 12 Brooklyn)
  3. At 9 p.m. on Friday a man was shot in the leg outside of an apartment building on Avenue D in Flatbush. That's one of at least three separate shooting incidents that took place over the weekend. The other two were in Lower Manhattan and The Bronx, respectively. (New York Post)
