Here are the top three stories today in Ditmas Park-Flatbush:

  1. Edu Hermelyn, the husband of Flatbush Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, was appointed to a top position in Mayor Adams' administration, as a liaison between the Department of Social Services (which manages homeless shelters) and local politicians. Bichotte Hermelyn herself has recently opposed a homeless shelter in Flatbush near Brooklyn College, saying the site should be used for housing instead. (City Limits)
  2. Flatbush's school district has one of the lowest vaccination rates among school children, coming in at 43%. Brownsville has the lowest rate of the entire city, at just 38%. Starting next week NYC public school are likely to see mask requirements lifted. (Patch)
  3. Mayor Adams indicated that he would make 'modifications' to his controversial plan to remove homeless individuals from the subway. The plan has drawn criticism for not specifying what exactly would happen to the people removed–whether they would be sent to supportive housing, a shelter, or somewhere else. (New York City Patch)
