Get Housing Help At Flatbush Councilman's Office Wednesday

Having maintenance issues? Landlord problems? Here's how you can learn more.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — People in Flatbush and the surrounding area who have questions or issues about housing can get free information directly from the city on Wednesday at City Councilman Jumaane Williams' district office.

The city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development is hosting free "office hours" across the city over the summer to help people get better and direct information about housing issues.

HPD staff will take questions from both tenants and building owners. Topics include maintenance issues, code enforcement, affordable housing, foreclosures and tenant harassment.

"Every day, HPD’s Enforcement and Neighborhood Services team is out responding to complaints to help ensure the quality and safety of the city's housing," said HPD Commissioner Maria Torres-Springer said in a press release.

"Now, through our new Summer Office Hours, HPD will be coming to your neighborhood to provide valuable information and resources directly to residents."

Williams — whose district includes Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood and Canarsie — has his district office at 4517 Avenue D, near East 46th Street. The free session runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

"I'm proud to have worked with the Housing Preservation Department (HPD) to bring summer hours to council districts across the city," said Williams, the chair of the council's committee on housing and buildings.

"Streamlining access to information about resources and services can be the difference between someone seeking help, and someone suffering in silence. With HPD staff in district offices, constituents will be able to find the help they need conveniently."
