Park Slope Patch: Park Slope Food Coop 'Heartbroken' Over Staffer's Death

Billy Donald Alexis, a “beloved” manager at thePark Slope Food Coop, has passed away. He was 58.

Members of the Coop said that Alexis "brought a warm ray of sunshine in those early hours when trucks are unloaded and shelves stocked."

Bed-Stuy Patch: UPDATE: Man Stabbed and Killed on Park Ave. Thursday Night

79th Pct. police have arrested Kyle Sylvester, 24, of 878 Park Avenue for the stabbing death of victim Orlando Houston. He has been charged with 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Carroll Gardens Patch: Judge Slaps SUNY With Restraining Order Barring LICH Closure

Citing a possible violation of New York's open meeting law, a Kings County Supreme Court judge slapped SUNY Downstate with a restraining order on Wednesday, barring the institution from moving forward with its plans to close one of its hospitals in Cobble Hill.

The Honorable Betsy Barros signed a temporary restraining order to stop the SUNY Board of Trustees or anyone acting on their behalf from taking any action to close LICH pending a further hearing on March 7.

Ditmas Park Patch: Search Is On for Missing Senior Citizen

The NYPD is asking for the public's help in finding a senior citizen last seen on Feb. 18 leaving her home late at night. 

Marie Adelson is 65-years-old and was last seen at 11 p.m. leaving her Clarendon Road home located near Flatbush Avenue. She was reported missing on Feb. 21. 

Fort Greene-Clinton Hill Patch: Clinton Hill School Farm Efforts Aided by Local Restaurant

A Fort Greene restaurant is assisting in a local public elementary school's efforts to cultivate and harvest its own food.

PS 20: The Clinton Hill School is expanding its urban agriculture program extensively, growing its program "P.S. 20 Farms" from four classes to 14, to allow its entire student body to get their hands dirty raising food and taste the fruits of their labors. 

In order to help drive awareness and interest to the project, from now until March 8, South African restaurant Madiba is offering a free drink to anyone who brings in a receipt for donating $20 or more.

After months of negotiations, Walgreens announced Thursday its plans to lease one third of the store's roughly 14,149 square-feet to a supermarket—another Key Food—forging a partnership unprecedented in the drug store chain's history.
