Here are the top four stories today in Ditmas Park-Flatbush:
- Brian Cunningham has won the Flatbush and Crown Heights State Assembly seat vacated by Diana Richardson, beating his opponent Jelanie Deshong, who was running on the Working Families Party ticket, by nearly a thirty-point margin. Only about 3,000 ballots were cast for any candidate. (Patch)
- Across the city, Black homeowners are concerned about the prospect of their homes being foreclosed on, due to falling back on property taxes or other payments, after a pandemic stop to the practice lapsed. In the Flatbush/Ditmas Park area approximately 10% of homeowners are behind on their payments, putting them at risk. (THE CITY)
- On Saturday neighborhood activist Monique Chandler-Waterman kicked off her campaign to replace Nick Perry in his East Flatbush, Brownsville and Canarsie district — with the support of the former Assemblyman himself. (Caribbean Life)
- Firefighters put out a three-alarm blaze early Wednesday morning on E. 9th Street in Kensington, between Foster Avenue and Avenue H. Five firefighters were injured as they rescued a 67-year-old man. (Brooklyn Paper)
