Here are the top four stories in Ditmas Park-Flatbush today:

  1. Monique Chandler-Waterman, a director of the city’s Test and Trace Corps, has secured the Democratic Party's nomination for the Flatbush Assembly seat vacated by Nick Perry. A special election will be held on May 24 in which Chandler-Waterman will face opposition from Hercules Reid, an aid to Mayor Eric Adams, and charter school administrator Otis Danne Jr. (Brooklyn Paper)
  2. The Brooklyn Democratic Party has filed many objections against the petitions of candidates for the borough's county committee and district leader positions. The progressive organization Rep Your Block, which encourages increased participation in Brooklyn politics, believes the objections have been falsified, and are an attempt by politicos, including party chair and Flatbush Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte-Hermelyn, to maintain their power. (THE CITY)
  3. One of the two men who helped police capture Frank James, the suspect in Tuesday's mass-shooting event in Sunset Park, was Francisco Puebla. An immigrant from Puebla, Mexico, he manages a hardware store and is a resident of Ditmas Park. (Documented NY)
  4. A Flatbush man was convicted of manslaughter in the killing of a father, who attempted to retrieve a baseball cap associated with a gang that had been stolen from his son. Brooklyn Attorney General Eric Gonzalez announced the news on Thursday. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
