SEE: Prospect Park Unveils 7,000 Pinwheels In The Rose Garden
Take a look at photos from the installation.
PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN — A few dozen people gathered on a soggy Friday afternoon to check out the unveiling of a new art installation in Prospect Park's Rose Garden — 7,000 yellow pinwheels.
The piece, created by AREA4 and Suchi Reddy of Reddymade Architecture & Design, is called "The Connective Project," and the pinwheels will contain pieces of art from the community about what Prospect Park means to them. It's part of the celebration of Prospect Park's 150th anniversary.
The Rose Garden, in the Northeast section of the park, has been neglected in recent times and, while longer-term plans for it are in discussions, the art piece is an effort to liven up the space in the mean time.

"It has blown me away walking through these three different parts," Assemblyman Bobby Carroll said Friday afternoon. "And it opened up a part of the park that I rarely visit."
The yellow pinwheels are set up in large clusters throughout the Rose Garden, a long, 2.5-acre, secluded stretch of the park that includes empty lily ponds. When the wind blew on an overcast Friday afternoon, it created a pretty cool effect when they all spun together.

The pinwheels will be up in the Rose Garden from July 7 through July 17. During select hours, members of the public will be able to make pinwheels of their own to add to the display.
