A fast-moving cold front combined with the city's hot and humid weather prompted the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Tuesday.Â
A severe thunderstorm watch means that damaging winds, driving rain and dime-sized hail are possible.
The alert covers all five boroughs of New York City, upstate New York and much of New Jersey.
