Shots Fired Near Brooklyn College Student Center; 2 Suspects In Custody

No one was injured in the shooting, which had nothing to do with the school or its campus, police said.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — Gunfire rang out near the Brooklyn College student center on Tuesday afternoon following an altercation between two groups of people, the NYPD told Patch.

No injuries have been reported, and the incident had nothing to do with the school or its campus, according to police and the school.

Shortly after 4 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired from a group of males who were gathered near East 27th Street and Campus Road, close to the student center, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. The group fled, leaving the gun behind, police said.

The gun was recovered by police, who eventually chased down two of the men and took them into custody, police said. Their charges are pending.

The incident "appears to have stemmed from a prior incident where the groups were in a physical altercation," the police spokesman told Patch. One group came back to the location with a firearm, police said.

A school spokesman for the school told Patch that the campus was not placed on lockdown, despite what some students on campus said on social media.

"It has not affected the campus or its operations," Ernesto Mora told Patch. "Nothing was on lockdown, everything is working fine."
