At the house, police said they found 2-year-old Melody Pheng unconscious and unresponsive. Pheng’s father was performing CPR on her at the time, police said.
Emergency medical responders transported the girl to Maimonides Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Drowning is suspected as the girl's cause of death, according to the NYPD. However, the NYC Medical Examiner is still investigating the incident.
PIX11 reported that the girl was found in the family's bathtub, and that her parents and 4-year-old brother are being questioned about what happened. The family has reportedly been cooperating with authorities.
Police could not confirm to Patch where in the home, exactly, Pheng was found.
The Daily News reported Monday afternoon that investigators found bruises on the neck of Pheng's four-year-old brother. While the injuries are not serious, the child, Pheng's 24-year-old mother, and her 30-year-old father are being questioned, according to the News. The family has no history of domestic violence, the paper notes. The NYPD could not confirm the report Monday afternoon.
