- Meet Camille Newman, director of The Brooklyn Women's Business Center, one of only 136 "WBC's" in the country. Based in East New York, her organization serves the communities of East Brooklyn, which Newman says have received significantly less financial resources than areas such as Downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan. - A Flatbush mom and former paralegal, Tawanna Hilliard, was found guilty this week of threatening protected witnesses who planned to name her son, a former gang member, in a court case back in 2018. Her son had helped carry out an armed robbery. (Patch)
- Frankie Light, born to deaf parents in Flatbush, is a YouTube polyglot. Speaking dozens of tonges, he traverses the street of New York City shocking native speakers of Mandarin Chinese, Yiddish, and a host of other languages. Recently, he visited the Yiddish-speaking community of Crown Heights–one he has been aware of his entire life, albeit only from the outside looking in. (The New York Times)
