Two Flatbush Gentrification Forums Are Scheduled for Nov. 19

The events will take place at the Flatbush Library and at the Caribbeing House.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — Two local forums focused on the impact of gentrification in Flatbush are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19.

First, at 2:30 p.m., local activist organization Equality for Flatbush will host a community meeting on the intersection of gentrification and police harassment (two of the group's major areas of focus) at the Flatbush Library, located at 22 Linden Blvd.

The event is billed as a chance to "come together with your neighbors, community activists, and lawyers to organize to stop the displacement and police harassment in Flatbush and East Flatbush."

Then, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., a second forum will take place at the Caribbeing House, located at 794 Flatbush Ave. (written about here by Patch). The discussion will be lead by Miguel A. Hernandez of Williamsaburg, Bianca Perez of Bushwick, and Flatbush's Imani Henry, who leads Equality for Flatbush.

"Greater Flatbush including Ditmas Park and Prospect Lefferts Gardens is undergoing rapid gentrification: new buildings, new neighbors and new businesses are popping up everywhere," a description of the event reads. "Join us as we convene a conversation with leaders from Williamsburg, Bushwick and Flatbush to openly discuss the issues we are facing together."
