WATCH: Brooklyn Arsonist Sets Popular Vegan Restaurant on Fire
Around 3 a.m. on a hot summer night.

A video released on Thursday afternoon by the NYPD shows the moment that Strictly Vegetarian Restaurant — one of Brooklyn’s best-loved vegan joints — went up in flames during the wee hours of July 23.
“The suspect approached the location and intentionally started a fire causing damage to the exterior and interior of the building,” police say in a statement.
Indeed — in the video, a dark figure can be spotted walking past the store’s lot at 2268 Church Avenue in East Flatbush, near Ditmus Park, and throwing something at the building. Then we see an instant explosion of flames.

Reviewers on Yelp and HappyCow call the restaurant one of the best vegan spots in Brooklyn. “Everything was delicious, but I loved the braised tofu skins and the mashed pumpkin,” writes a Yelp user and Brooklyn resident named Elle.
“The kale was also really good,” she says. “It’s definitely home-cooked comfort food, vegan Caribbean style.”
