Amazon Go Cashierless Store Will Open Near World Trade Center

The high-tech convenience store is slated for Brookfield Place, Recode reported.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — A cashierless Amazon Go store is opening up near the World Trade Center, Recode reports.

The high-tech convenience store utilizes sensors, cameras and computer vision to automatically charge customers for items as they exit. Customers scan an Amazon Go app on the way in, but simply walk out with items as they leave — no scanning necessary.

The Financial District outpost is slated for Brookfield Place. It will be adjacent to the office and retail complex's 10-story glass pavilion known as the Winter Garden atrium, the website reports.

The retail giant has three existing Go stores — one in Seattle and two in Chicago. The shops have a couple of configurations: its first Seattle store, for instance, sells sandwiches and salads along with packaged groceries and alcohol. Others focus solely on prepared foods.

It's unclear which version Amazon plans for the Financial District outpost, Recode notes.
