Battery Park City Unveils New Community Space
Priority is given to residents and local groups to book the space, but anyone is welcome to reserve it.

BATTERY PARK CITY, NY — The Battery Park City Authority unveiled a new space for locals to gather and host community events Thursday.
The center, at 200 Rector Place between South End Avenue and the Hudson River Greenway, is a 400-square foot space equipped with a kitchen, lounge area and restrooms. In a separate area, it also houses space for The Battery's security force and construction workers for various ongoing projects in the community, according to the authority.
“We hope this will be a place where people can connect with one another and take advantage of community-based services and activities,” said Battery Park City Authority President and CEO B.J. Jones.

The facility also hosts weekly events coordinated by the authority, such as board game sessions. The center is a boon to locals, especially seniors looking to bond with their Battery Park City neighbors, one local said.
"We’re thrilled that this room is now open for the community and that our seniors have a permanent place to meet and socialize,” said Ann Schwalbenberg, a member of Battery Park City's Seniors Steering Committee.

The Rector Place space replaces the community facility formerly rented at The Regatta building on South End Avenue — the authority's lease for that center expired in 2016.
Priority is given to residents and local groups to use the space, but anyone is welcome to reserve it.
