Ever-Private Eric Adams Has Secret Office Steps From City Hall: Report

"It's not a secret location — it's a space that we utilize to do work," the mayor shot back Wednesday about a Politico report on the space.

NEW YORK, NY — Eric Adams has found a new hideaway from the traditions of being mayor — an under-wraps office steps from City Hall.

The mayor has set up secret office space in a Pearl Street high-rise known as the Verizon Building as a satellite workspace for members of his team, Politico revealed this week.

The office — which the outlet notes is removed from the watch of legislators, reporters and other city employees — is Adams' latest departure, both physically and symbolically, from the norms of his role leading the city.

The often-private mayor has also made headlines for trading the traditional mayoral residence at Gracie Mansion for his apartment in Bed-Stuy, though even his whereabouts in that neighborhood have been questioned. For a while, Adams even lived in his office at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

Adams himself has rebuffed the idea that the Pearl Street space is a story at all.

"You know what I figured out? I figured out whenever you have Eric Adams name in the story, you get a lot of clicks," he said Wednesday when asked about the Politico story. "I'm just a popular guy to write about."

The Pearl Street office is one of several spots the mayor said he has to give team members more room than they have at City Hall and has himself been there only a few times.

"It's not a secret location — it's a space that we utilize to do work," Adams said. "This is a city building ... every space in this city is part of what I utilize to assist the city."
