FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — The famous Lower Manhattan bar Dead Rabbit was named a James Beard finalist Wednesday.
The Financial District Irish bar was one of five bars nationwide that were named James Beard finalists for outstanding bar program and the only one in New York City.
The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog, located at 30 Water St., is led by Jack McGarry and Sean Muldoon, who hail from Belfast in Northern Ireland.

They opened the FiDi watering hole in 2013. By 2016, it was named the world's best bar.
Last year, the owners nearly doubled the size of the bar in a renovation the came months after a fire briefly shuttered the location in July.

The nearby Tribeca eatery Frenchette was named a James Beard finalist for best new restaurant as well.
The James Beard Foundation announced the finalists Wednesday, with several New York City establishments and chefs seeking the prestigious award, known as the Oscars of the culinary world.
The awards will be presented May 6 at the Lyric Opera in Chicago.
