Man Wandering Subway Tracks Fatally Struck By 6 Train, Say Police

The middle-aged man was walking on the subway tracks when he was struck and dragged under the train, police said.

TRIBECA, NY — A man was struck and killed by a 6 train while he was wandering the subway tracks Saturday night, police said.

The man in his 50s was walking on the north-bound tracks at the Canal Street station on the 6 line just after 11 p.m. when a train plowed into him, a police spokesman said.

He was dragged under the subway car for several feet before the train operator slammed on the breaks. Medics pronounced the man dead on the scene, authorities said.

It is unclear why the man was on the tracks. His identity was not immediately available.

No criminality is suspected.
