NY 26th State Senate Results: Brian Kavanagh Wins

Incumbent Brian Kavanagh defended his seat from Republican and Conservative party challengers.

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — Brian Kavanagh defended his seat in Tuesday's midterm election in the 26th State Senate District.

Kavanagh, whose district includes Lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg and Greenpoint, defeated Republican challenger Anthony Arias and Conservative candidate Stuart J. Avrick with 87.8 percent of the vote, according to city Board of Elections data.

With 100 percent of polling sites reporting in, Kavanagh handily beat the competition with Arias taking 11.2 percent of the vote and Avrick holding onto one percent of the district's voters.

Kavanagh was elected to the district during a November, 2017 special election to fill the position. He vacated his 74th District seat in the State Assembly to serve the senate.
