New Mobile Computer Lab Unveiled at LaGuardia Houses on Lower East Side

The van provides computer and internet to members of NYCHA developments who don't have access.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — New York City Housing Authority residents looking for computer and internet access now have one more place to go.

NYCHA unveiled its third "digital van" on Tuesday at the LaGuardia Houses on the Lower East Side. The van is essentially a computer lab on wheels, providing access to NYCHA residents who don't have the money to afford a computer or internet access.

"NYCHA is increasing residents' access to technology," NYCHA Chair and CEO Shola Olatoye said in a statement. "Digital vans are one way we're bringing computers and the internet right to residents' doors – and with that, greater opportunities to connect with New York's 21st-century economy."

Residents can access NYCHA services, but the computers are also available for checking email, applying to jobs or any other service necessary.

The van is funded through the city's Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications and is completely free to use.

The van will be at the LaGuardia Houses on July 21 and 22, and a full schedule of the NYCHA developments it will stop at in Manhattan can be viewed here.
