Tribeca Attack: See Which Streets Are Still Closed

Police have shut down most of West Street in Lower Manhattan after a terrorist attack on Tuesday that left eight dead.

TRIBECA, NY — Multiple streets in Lower Manhattan remain shut down on Wednesday morning after a terrorist attack that killed 8 people and left another 11 wounded, police said.

Authorities say a driver, suspected to be 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov, rented a truck and then deliberately drove it onto the bike path near the West Side Highway on Tuesday just after 3 p.m. The attack killed eight people and injured at least 11 more, including two children, officials said.

Saipov was shot and wounded in the abdomen by an NYPD police officer as he got out of the truck waving two non-lethal guns. Officials say they are treating the attack as “an act of terror” but have not released additional details. Saipov was an immigrant from Uzbekistan who moved to the U.S. in 2010, law enforcement sources say.

Here’s the complete list of street closures and changes:

  • West Street: West Street is closed on the northbound side from Battery Place to Canal Street. It is closed in the southbound direction from 14th Street to Battery Place.
  • The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel: Manhattan-bound traffic exiting the tunnel will only be able to travel southbound, using the Battery Park underpass. Southbound traffic on the FDR Drive will only be able to travel to the Brooklyn-bound tunnel from the underpass; they will not able to continue north onto West Street.
  • Pedestrians: There will be a West Street pedestrian crossing on the south side of Murray Street. Students at nearby Stuyvesant High School should use this crossing and continue walking north until they reach Chambers Street.

The NYPD did not say how long the street closures would remain in effect.
