MANHATTAN, NY — A Wall Street executive was killed by a shark last week while she was scuba diving in Costa Rica, according to local authorities.
Rohina Bhandari, 49, an equity manager for a Manhattan firm, was mauled to death Thursday by a tiger shark while diving off a remote island near Costa Rica, Costa Rican authorities said.
Bhandari was a director at the Wall Street private equity firm WL Ross & Co., according to her LinkedIn account.

She was on vacation in Costa Rica and was diving off of the Isla del Coco when the attack happened. Her 26-year-old guide was also mauled by the shark, but survived, local authorities said in a statement.
The guide, who authorities identified only by his last name, Jiménez, said a female tiger shark attacked Bhandari as she was ascending. By the time Bhandari reached the surface, her legs had already been severely mauled.

Bhandari's friend Jon Benjamin remembered her as "generous and gregarious."
"Desperately sad to hear of the tragic, untimely passing of my dear friend," he wrote on Twitter. "She was a mainstay of my social life in NYC a decade ago, visited us in Chile and so kindly lent us her apartment in NYC in July this year."
Norah Lawlor, the PR strategist behind the Lawlor Media Group, remembered her friend as "one of a kind" in a post on Facebook.
