Whale Spotted Swimming Near Statue Of Liberty (VIDEO)
If you're out on the New York Harbor today, be on the lookout for a whale, the U.S. Coast Guard says.
A whale was spotted near the Statue of Liberty on Thursday morning, the U.S. Coast Guard said, and boaters are asked to be careful out on the water.
The Coast Guard itself did not see the whale, a spokesman told Patch, but it received several reports of a sighting from credible sources.
"We have seen several reports and we consider them reliable," Charles Rowe, the Coast Guard spokesman, told Patch.

Daniel Gallagher uploaded two videos of the whale swimming in the New York Harbor to Instagram. The Instagram posts have since been taken down, but a few news outlets snagged them before that happened.

The Coast Guard has "sent a report to mariners telling them to use caution" on the water Thursday, Rowe told Patch. He added that whale sightings in the harbor are "not common but not an unheard of event."

It was not clear what kind of whale it is.
If you see any more photos or video of the whale — or take one yourself! — send us an email. We'd love to feature it.
