Babylon Village Argyle Falls Getting Long-Awaited 'Makeover'

BABYLON, NY— Argyle Falls, on Argyle Lake on Montauk Highway, is an iconic Babylon Village landmark, but the 90-year-old structures have been in need of repair for some time. Thanks to two grants and a donation from a Babylon Village resident, a full restoration project has begun.

Mary Adams is the Babylon Village Trustee who oversees parks in the village and who was responsible for raising the needed funds for the restoration. She tells Patch that the repair work is going according to plan and that weather permitting, the falls could be done by the holidays.

"It's somewhat of a complete restoration—we are trying to preserve it and keep the integrity of the falls intact," she says. Some walkways and railings are unsafe and will need to be replaced, but overall the project aims to restore the park to its former condition.

The restoration is funded by a county and a state grant as well as a "phenomenonal donation" from a village resident.

"So many people have so many memories here and it adds to the value of our downtown. It's a beautiful landmark and we are so excited to see the final outcome. It's like a makeover," Adams said.

A rededication ceremony is planned at the site after the holidays.
