Man Killed When Garbage Truck Overturns In East Islip: Police

Passenger airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk police say.

EAST ISLIP, NY — A man was killed Thursday morning when a garbage truck overturned in East Islip, according to Suffolk County police.

Xavier Angulo Espinoza, 45, of Central Islip, was driving a garbage truck on the Sunrise Highway Service Road, near the Southern State Parkway, when he lost control and the vehicle overturned around 11:48 a.m., police said.

Espinoza was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A passenger in the truck was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities added.

The truck was impounded for a safety check.
