DA: East Meadow Man Charged in iPhone Scam
The man scammed a buyer in Hong Kong out of more than $100,000, officials said.

An East Meadow man was arrested Tuesday for stealing more than $100,000 by conducting a fake sale of 250 iPhones, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.
Hardeep Singh, 29, and his business, North Indian Trading Company LLC, will be arraigned Tuesday on two counts of second-degree grand larceny, the DA said.
If convicted, Singh faces between five and 15 years in prison, officials said.

Singh has been doing business from his parents’ home for at least a year, the DA said.
In February 2014, a victim in Hong Kong ordered 250 iPhone 5S “Factory Unlocked 16GB Greys” that cost more than $100,000, including shipping and handling, the DA said.

On March 5, 2014, Singh received the payment from the victim via a wire transfer, officials said. Singh, however, never shipped any items to the victim and effectively stole the money, authorities said.
“Whether you are in Nassau, or thousands of miles away in Hong Kong, everyone using the Internet is a potential target for online scammers looking for an opportunity to steal,” Acting DA Madeline Singas said in a statement Tuesday. “When it comes to online scams, crime knows no border.”
Anyone who believes they may be a victim of Singh’s should call the DA’s tip line at 516-571-7755.
