2 Drivers In Critical Condition After New Year's Day Crash On Sunrise Highway: Police

1 of the drivers is now facing charges including driving while intoxicated, police say.

MASSAPEQUA, NY. — A Ronkonkoma man faces charges of assault, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and vehicular assault after a Thursday morning crash that left him and another driver in critical condition, police said.

Nassau County police reported that 32-year-old Tasabbir Hossain was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes on Sunrise Highway in a 2021 Mercedes at 2 a.m. Thursday when he struck an Acura being driven by a 30-year-old man, police said. Both drivers were alone in their cars, and were hospitalized and listed in critical condition, police said.

After investigation, Hossain was arrested for driving while intoxicated, police said. His arraignment will take place once medically practical, police said.
