Dennis Carley Making Progress

East Meadow resident opened his eyes, moved his lower arms, right leg and toes Monday.

It's been 19 days since East Meadow resident Dennis Carley was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Delaware.

Carley's had good and bad days while he continues to recover at a hospital in Delaware and was responsive for the first time since Day 4, according to a page created to keep family and friends up-to-date on his progress.

"He opened his eyes, squeezed our hands, moved his lower arms, and moved his right leg and toes!" a Monday afternoon post on the We Love Dennis page read. "It is a struggle for him but it does appear that he is aware, is scared, and trying to communicate. He tried to shake his head back and forth. He moved his eyes and lids a bit and was almost "trying to talk" but he has a feeding tube in his mouth to slowly introduce solids."

Carley, who hit a curb with the motorcycle’s front tire and was thrown from the bike during the July 17 accident, according to Delaware police, was flown to Christiana Hospital in Delaware in critical condition, according to an article on www.delawareonline.com.

A fundraiser was held at RC Dugans in late July to raise money to help pay for Carley's hospital bills. The event raised more than $4,000.

"He has a long, long way to go--still needs stomach closure and surgeries--but this was a big step forward," the post read. "We have told him about all the love and support he is getting from family and friends everywhere ... Please keep your prayers coming."
