EM Fire Commissioner Welt Elected Vice Chair of the NC Fire Commission

Welt, a 55-year member of the EMFD, is well-regarded among his peers in the fire service in Nassau County.

East Meadow Fire Commissioner Carey A. Welt has been elected Vice Chairman of the Nassau County Fire Commission, an entity of county government that helps ensure our community's safety. The Commission serves as the liaison between Nassau’s 71 volunteer fire departments and the county government, overseeing crucial tasks such as fire prevention ordinances, hearing variance requests, and approving hiring and promotions for the Office of Fire Marshal. These responsibilities, carried out under civil service guidelines, are instrumental in maintaining the safety and well-being of our community.

Welt, a longtime commissioner in East Meadow, is well-regarded among his peers in the fire service in Nassau County. He is a 55-year member and former captain of East Meadow Fire Department’s Ladder Company #2. Professionally, Commissioner Welt spent 36 years in the Nassau County Office of Fire Marshal, attaining the rank of Assistant Chief Fire Marshal before retiring in 2013. He was also an instructor at the Fire Service Academy in Old Bethpage for 35 years. Commissioner Welt served our nation for six years, Honorably Discharged as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve.

The East Meadow Fire Department, which covers East Meadow and parts of Levittown and Westbury (Salisbury), always looks for new members to join their ranks as firefighters or emergency medical personnel; no experience is necessary. The fire department provides the training required.
